At Genuist Beauty, we spotlight women who embody the Perennial spirit—those who continually evolve, thrive, and redefine their lives with every season. This week, in our Sundays We Bloom story series, we honor Cynthia Good, a trailblazing woman whose story of reinvention, empowerment, and purpose embodies the very essence of the Perennial movement.
A Trailblazer in Journalism, Publishing, and Leadership
Many in Atlanta will remember Cynthia Good from her time as a prominent news anchor on Fox 5. After her successful journalism career, she made a bold pivot, launching Atlanta Woman magazine in the late ’90s. In the early 2000s, Cynthia founded Little PINK Book, a platform dedicated to empowering women in business, which has since become a national resource for female leaders.
Cynthia’s journey goes beyond journalism and publishing. She is also a poet, public speaker, and advocate for women’s empowerment. Her work has inspired countless audiences at major companies like Coca-Cola, IBM, and Delta Air Lines, where she shares her message of courage and empowerment.
Reinvention and Resilience: Embracing New Beginnings
If that weren’t enough, what makes Cynthia even more extraordinary is her ability to reinvent herself, no matter the circumstances. Reflecting on her evolution, Cynthia said that
for so long, people have been told they have one purpose—whether it’s to be a career woman, wife, mother, et al. But the truth is, you can have many purposes in life, and those purposes can evolve over time.
Where she once focused on empowering women through her work (and she still does), Cynthia now sees the importance of living a life that nourishes her own spirit and then to help others. As women, we often don’t put ourselves first. But I do now. I’ve learned to love myself and become my own best friend.
This mindset is the foundation of Cynthia’s creative pursuits, including her passion for jazz dance and through her poetry. Her first collection, What We Do with Our Hands, was born from a particularly painful 5-week period in her life when her 27-year marriage ended, she was kicked out of her home, and her mother passed away. From that heartbreak, her poetry flowed, offering her a path to healing and transformation. “The poems (in this collection) reflect a life racing out of control in real time, and the hard-fought journey to regain some sense of order.”
In her latest collection, In the Thaw of Day, Cynthia continues to explore themes of resilience and rebirth. The poems take readers on an epic journey through the aftermath of life-altering experiences, capturing moments of beauty and healing in nature and the everyday, while exploring impermanence, grief, and resilience. The collection moves readers through Paris, Mexico, Los Angeles, Atlanta and beyond, with themes of loss, hope, and gratitude woven into each verse.(Get Cynthia’s book In the Thaw of Day here.)
